The island's delegates will compete in track and field, swimming and judo. In that latter discipline Cuba won the first spot among 38 countries at a world tournament held in France in 2006.
President of the National Blind Association, Amado Gonzalez Landa, said that among the Cuban competitors are judokas Yangaliny Jimenez and Victor Martinez -both world champions-, several medalists in track and field, and swimmer Adonis Leon -who was a bronze world medalist in South Africa.
Gonzalez noted that another group of 50 physically impaired athletes -the island's largest representation of this kind ever at an international event- will arrive in shortly Rio de Janeiro to participate at the Para-Pan-American Games to take place in that Brazilian city on August 12-19.
