Discovered in the 1970s, the fossil of the most ancient sloth of the Caribbean is now being exhibited in Havanas Museum of Natural History
The fossil of the most ancient sloth of the Antilles now belongs to the permanent collection of Cubas Museum of Natural History, after having undergone ten years study with the cooperation of the New York Museum of Natural History.
Both the Cuban and US scientific communities are trying to determine the epoch in which the land mammals first arrived on the island.
A close relative of the armadillo and the aardvark, the sloth evolved in Latin America and represented an important element of the mammal fauna of the New World during the Cenozoic era.
