Exhibition Martí in visual arts, in Toluca, Mexico

The exhibition Martí in visual arts, that puts together reproductions of pieces that recreate the figure of the National Hero José Martí, organized by the Cuban Embassy with the collaboration of the Centro de Estudios Martianos from Havana, was inaugurated in the lobby of the Municipal Palace of Toluca, the venue of the chamber of deputies from the Mexican State.

The exhibition collects copies of pieces that cover a wide scope of art styles and tendencies, from the portrait made of Martí while he was alive by the Swede Herman Norman, the works by David Alfaro Siqueiros and Diego Rivera, to those made by many first line Cuban contemporary artists, such as Raúl Martínez, Manuel Mendive, Roberto Fabelo, Juan Moreira, Agustín Bejarano, among others, to reach a number of seventy pieces.

Coordinated in Toluca by the Cuban historian living in Calimaya, Onoria Céspedes, the exhibition was inaugurated by the deputy Luis Antonio Guadarrama, joint coordinator of the parliamentary group from the Labor Party and by Vivian Martínez Tabares, cultural attaché from the Cuban Embassy. It included the presence of Ernesto Monroy Yurrieta, under- secretary of Basic and Normal Education from the Mexican State , of other diplomats from the Cuban mission, of Cuban artists and intellectuals living in the Mexican State and of the general public. The opening act was entertained by the musician from Santiago de Cuba Guido Medina who performed themes from Cuban New Trova and from Latin American repertoire.

Martí in visual arts will remain in exhibition in Toluca until June 29, after which it will be moved to other cultural spaces from the Mexican State .
