A United Nations Population Fund official visited Central Cuba
Arie Hockman, UNPF representative for Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Cuba was interested in programs for human development implemented in the province. He talked with health experts from Cienfuegos and offered, on behalf of the international organization, to cooperate with actions to improve the quality of life of senior citizens in particular.

The province has one of the highest average ages of the country, with 17 percent of the population over 65. The municipality of Cruces is among the top three in the country for life expectancy.

Cienfuegos was reported as the healthiest area in Latin America several years ago. It has the means to determine and treat the most important health problems that include non-transmissible diseases, eating habits, cultural patterns and the study of risk groups.
