Cuban Book Fair Extends to other Provinces

The International Book Fair Cuba 2009 is packing today in Havana, to begin its national tour with an award ceremony to the best exhibitors and stands among over 350 from 43 countries in the fair.

Readers will be offered several book presentations, three of which dedicated to Cuban cinema. One of them, Y si fuera una huella (And if it were a print) by Alfredo Guevara, president of the New Latin American Cinema Festival.

Chilean authors and academics will offer a panel discussion on literature of the new generations of that Latin American nation, guest of honor to this edition of the Fair. Taking part in this event are Roxana Miranda, Claudia, Apablaza, Gustavo Barrera and Miguel de Campo.

Casa de las Américas, homaged at this fair for its 50th anniversary, will present discs with texts in the voices of Mario Benedetti, Julio Cortázar, Gonzalo Rojas and Gabriela Mistral, as part of its collection Palabra de esta América (Word of this America).

Its editorial fund also proposes El canto libre of Victor Jara, Songs of Violeta Parra, Hasta la Victoria siempre Che querido and Cancion con todos of Mercedes Sosa.

The fair will leave today from the fortress San Carlos de laCabaña, its main venue, to travel to the extreme west of the island and conclude next March 8 in the Eastern city of Santiago deCuba.
