Cuban Divers to Compete in Qatar

Cuban platform divers Jose Antonio Guerra and Jeinkler Aguirre will compete this Saturday in the opening day of the 3rd FINA Diving World Series in Doha, Qatar .

Guerra, silver medallist at the 2005 World Championship and fifth place in Beijing Olympics, along Aguirre will contest in the synchronized event, a direct final to be held in the afternoon, in the two-day tournament.

This will be their international debut as a pair, and they will face Chinese Yue Lin-Lian Hou and Germans Sascha Klein-Patrick Hausding, champions and runner-ups in Beijing respectively.

In this opening day there will be also the 3 meter springboard for men event, and the synchronized springboard and individual platform for women.

Many of the stars attending this world event, like Olympic champion Australian Matthew Mitcham and double Olympic champion Chinese Wu Minxia, have been happily impressed by the Hamad Acuatic Center, to which the public will enter for free.

Close to 60 sportspeople from Australia, Canada, China, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Kuwait, Mexico, Russia, Qatar, Ukraine and Cuba will participate in the event, which will have three other phases: Changzhou, China (March 27-28), Sheffield, England (April 18-19) and Mexico City (April 24-25).
