The Cuban Academy of Languages will celebrate Spanish Language Day, April 23, at the San Geronimo College in Havana.
The program will include a conference on language, dialogue and culture by Graziella Pogolotti, and a concert by the Exaudi choir under the conduction of María Felicia Pérez, which will perform Tres epitafios by Rodolfo Halffter with texts by Miguel de Cervantes.
Cervantes' masterpiece "El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha" contributed to the development of the Spanish language as we know it today.
He died on April 23, 1616, coincidentally the same day that Shakespeare did. In homage to Cervantes, this day has been chosen to commemorate the Spanish language.
