There will be nine concerts in Florida, which will serve as preliminary for a 45-day tour of the nation by the Charanga, to take place in May, 2010.

Charanga Habanera, the popular dance music group directed by David Calzado, will close 2009 with a tour of the United States, beginning December 17th.

Calzado told ACN that the group intends to reopen the doors of that country to Cuban popular music, after seven years of absence from US stages due to the denial of visas.

We expect that, after our visit, many of the island’s creators can give their art to the US people, expressed Calzado.

The year 2010 will be a busy one for this group founded in 1988, which cultivates many of the Cuban music genres, like son, guaracha and danzón, and others like reguetón, funk and Latin jazz.

The band is characterized by brilliant sounds and lyrics that make reference to the country’s social reality, and a young image that produces a display of energy on stage.

During the first trimester, the group will perform in Canada and in several Latin American countries, and in the summer they will play in Europe, besides fulfilling their national commitments.

At present, the band is promoting its album “No mires la carátula” number 15th of its career, while it will begin to record a new album in July 2010.

David Calzado and his Charanga Habanera have carried out important tours around the world and in 2003 it was nominated for a Latin Grammy for the CD “Live in the USA", precisely the fruit of presentations in that country.
