The 18th Small Format Theatre Festival is taking place in Santa Clara city until Friday January 29, with the presence of well-known actors and groups from the whole country.

The renovated El Mejunje Cultural Centre is the main location for the event, in which the local Teatro Escambray group will perform.

They inaugurate the contest with the work El chico del infierno (The kid from hell), and Alánimo; Icarón and Teatro de las Estaciones, from Matanzas; Teatro Rumbo, from Pinar del Río; Pálpito and Teatro Gaviota, from Havana; Trébol Teatro and Alasbuenas, from Holguín; Guiñol de Cienfuegos, La Guerrilla de Teatreros, from Granma, and Guiñol de Guantánamo, among others, will perform according to Ramón Silverio, organizer of the event.

The younger public will be pleased, for them they will be putting on works, like Aventuras con el televisor (Teatro La Proa);Historia de burros (Papalote); and Pico sucio (Guiñol de Cienfuegos), which were staged recently for the first time in the Margarita Casallas Hall, of the noted Villa Clara cultural institution.

The hosts, the El Mejunje Theatrical Company, have two works that have received the critic’s favour in different competitions: Relato de un pueblo roto and Eureka en apuros.

A group of noted artists, among them the National Theatre Prize-winner, Verónica Lynn, is responsible for the selection of the most outstanding works.
