After months of severe drought, the 14 reservoirs in the western Cuban province of Artemisa are recovering their storage levels with the rains of recent days associated to tropical storm Colin.
Engineer Ludvy Garcia, Director of the territory’s Hydraulic entity said that due to the intense drought in the province, the accumulation of recent rain helped but it’s not enough although the Buena Vista, Maurin and Baracoa reservoirs are reported with over 95 percent of its total capacity.
The rest of the reservoirs maintains capacities of between 50 and 60 percent, although it should increase if the current meteorological conditions continue, he added.
Regarding the historic average for the first days of the month of June, the persistence of rain generate an increase of 50 percent in what is generally accumulates in this part of the island, concluded Garcia.
