Amid the severe shortages of products in Cuba's freely convertible currency (MLC) stores, it seems that cockroaches have found a place to roam without any difficulties. A complaint on the social media platform X illustrates this situation, showing the insect walking through various parts of the store.

"On sale today at the 3rd and 70th (MLC) market: products accompanied by cockroaches," user Violeta sarcastically remarked.

"This is how most stores in Cuba look nowadays. Disgusting! Remember, slaves, wash the merchandise before consuming it," she added, warning of potential diseases for consumers of products sold in this location.

Health Risks and Consumer Warnings

Markets like the one at 3rd and 70th, which are focused on collecting MLC from the population, do so without offering a diversified selection. Many Cubans have reported the shortages in these state-run establishments. One resident of Havana, after visiting seven stores, concluded that there is "nothing" available in Cuba.

Adding to these shortages is the presence of cockroaches, which can cause various diseases, including diarrhea, gastroenteritis, typhoid fever, streptococcal infections, and staphylococcus infections.

Other citizen complaints about cockroach infestations have come from patients hospitalized in Cuban medical facilities or their relatives. Recently, it was reported that cockroaches are freely roaming in a hospital in Santiago de Cuba, crawling over furniture in broad daylight and in full view of everyone.
