The Cuban Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) has released Special Advisory No. 1 due to anticipated rainfall, showers, and thunderstorms in the western region, linked to an approaching cold front. According to the report, Cuba is currently under the influence of high-pressure systems over the western Atlantic, while a cold front is advancing across the southeastern Gulf of Mexico, bringing extensive cloudiness and storms.
The advisory highlights that meteorological radar images from Casa Blanca in Havana and La Bajada in Pinar del Río have identified intense storm activity spanning approximately 300 miles from the northern Yucatán Peninsula to Key West. These storm systems are moving southeast and are expected to impact western Cuba by Wednesday afternoon and evening, resulting in worsening weather conditions.
Potential for Severe Weather Events
INSMET warns that the passage of these storm areas could lead to heavy rainfall in parts of the western region, particularly affecting Pinar del Río, Artemisa, and Havana. "Additionally, in interior and northern coastal areas experiencing intense thunderstorms, severe weather events such as strong wind gusts, hail, and other severe phenomena may occur," the advisory states.
