President Raul Castro avoids subsidies for houses'refurbishment and building

<p style="text-align: justify;">AFP. Havana, The Government of Cuba avoided susbsidies to materials for the construction and refurbishment of houses, one of&nbsp; the main and most serious social problems of the country and right since January they will be freely sold but with higher prices. "Since January of the coming year, the sale of subsided construction materials will banish from the storehouses and they will be freely commercialized" said Pilar Hernández, official of the Ministry of Domestic Commerce, cited by the Juventud Rebelde Daily. Leader Fidel Castro says delegated powers as party head

Tour of Pablo Milanes, gift to the Cubans

Mexicana bankruptcy helps Cubana

<p style="text-align: justify;">The demise of flag carrier Mexicana helped Cubana de Aviación increase its market share of Mexico-Cuba traffic by 10 percent, La Jornada reported. Cubana’s market share rose from 34 to 44 percent. The Cuban state airline added three Mexico flights in September; Cubana offers daily flights from Mexico City, and two on Wednesdays and Sundays at least through Dec. 15. Read More

Another official roadside food stand opens in Havana

<p style="text-align: justify;">Havana province has inaugurated its ninth roadside farmers' stand in Güira de Melena, TV Camagüey reported Thursday. The province plans to install 30 of them along its highways. Read More

Florida International University's Cuba Travel Policy

<p style="text-align: justify;">Now that an appellate court has upheld the Florida law that prohibits state universities from spending money on trips to Cuba, Florida International University has a new Cuba travel policy. FIU’s Faculty Senate had challenged the law with no luck.&nbsp; The new policy almost sounds like it encourages faculty to play around with the books, pointing out that the trips are not prohibited – as long as the funds that pay for them do not pass through any FIU accounts. Cuban Posters at International Design Biennial
