Cubadisco: The great musical party

CUBADISCO 2007
Cubadisco, the coveted International Fair for the Cuban recording industry market, will be holding May 27th-29th the 11th edition to mark its 10 years in which many people have worked with love and dedication. It hasn't been a paved road for this event, dedicated to promote the best cultural proposals of the Cuban music.

Cuba's First Railroad Museum reopens

Cuba's first Museum of the Railroad reopened in the municipality of Bejucal, Havana, to commemorate the International Day of Museums, May 18th and the 170 anniversary of the first railroad in Cuba. The remodelled center founded twenty years ago, displays the history of the railroad in Cuba, seventh country in the world and first in Ibero America to have it.

Cuban javelin thrower among worlds best

Javelin
Cuban athlete Guillermo Martinez showed he is in top form in preparation for the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro this July with an 85.93 meter javelin throw at the Grand Prix of Fortaleza, Brazil. Martinez, 25, moved into third place in the 2007 world rankings behind Athens 2004 champion Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway (86.39) and Aleksandr Ivanov of Russia (86.26).

Acclaimed japanese guitarist to play Cubadisco 2007

Cuba and UN protect endemic bird

Cuban experts report the UN is currently carrying out a conservation project for Aratinga euops, an endemic bird in danger of extinction. The initiative, taking place in the Guamuhaya Massif's Yaguanabo Valley in the center of the island, has allowed so far a substantial increase of that bird s population in the zone.

Cuba reduces use of chemicals in agriculture

Organic agriculture
Cuba has reduced the use of chemical pesticides by 50 percent replacing them with biological products and favoring the development of natural enemies of insects that plague crops. Maximo Martinez, vice director of the National Vegetable Health Center, said more than 1.5 million hectares of vegetables and fruits are protected every year using biological products.

Vital railway branch under repair in Holguin
