Cuban National Film Awards: Fernando Pérez, Daysi Granados and Nelson Rodríguez

The film director Fernando Pérez ("Madrigal"), the actress Daysi Granados and the film editor Nelson Rodríguez, have received the Cuban National Film Award for 2007. The winners formed part of a group of 13 nominees, among whom were directors, actors, an editor and a costume designer, all who have figured in many Cuban films in the past decades.

UK wins Habanasommelier Contest

Sommelier Contest
The representative of the United Kingdom, Fabien Garrigues, from the Malmaison and Du Vin hotels, won the Sixth International Habanasommelier Contest, held on the last day of the Ninth Havana Cigar Festival. Garrigues, who has a French nationality and is 26 years old, convinced the jury with his combination of a Romeo y Julieta Short Churchill cigar and a Mendoza brandy.

Cuba-Venezuela scientific exchange to benefit all of Latin America

Cuba develops new low cost nutritional algae

Cuban scientists have developed a new technology for the producing the micro alga (chlorella vulgaris) used as component in diet supplements and food complements. The new culturing technology, developed in the laboratory, has been replicated in a field of approximately 3.5 square kilometres enriched with farmyard and sugar industry waste, bringing down the cost of the process.

Cuba wins seven titles at Independence Boxing Cup

The ten Cubans participating at the Independence Boxing Cup underway in Dominican Republic have won seven gold medals. Two-time Olympic Champ Guillermo Rigondeaux won his 90th consecutive fight since 2003 on Tuesday to win his division (54 kg), reports Granma newspaper.

Ghanaian Embassy donates toys to children's hospital in Havana

The Ghanaian embassy in Cuba delivered a donation of toys to children at the William Soler Pediatric Cardiology Hospital in Havana on Wednesday. The ambassador of the West African country, Cecilia Gyan Amoah, told the Cuban News Agency (ACN) that the donation is a small gift in return for the immense assistance and friendship that Cuba has shown to her nation since 1959
